About Dr. Wowk

Victor Wowk, MD, FAAOS, MPH, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who has been an active member of the local orthopaedic community for over twenty-five years. He provides comprehensive orthopaedic care at the Rockville, Silver Spring, and Germantown, Maryland, locations of Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group PA. 

Dr. Wowk’s surgical expertise and interest are in sports medicine and arthritis of the knee. He performs arthroscopic surgery of the knee, total and partial knee replacement, and prosthetic knee revision surgery. Dr. Wowk is certified in computer-navigated total and partial knee replacement surgery as well as in cartilage preservation surgery. In addition, he offers non-operative treatments for knee arthritis.

Dr. Wowk is a Minnesota native and completed both his Bachelor of Science degree and his Master’s degree in Public Health at the University of Minnesota. As a student at the University, he was a state champion squash player. He completed his medical education at the Medical College of Wisconsin and received his orthopedic training at the University of Maryland. 

During his orthopaedic residency at the University of Maryland, Dr. Wowk received extensive training at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he also served as chief resident. Dr. Wowk went on to treat traumatic orthopaedic injuries at Suburban, Holy Cross Silver Spring, Washington Adventist, and Shady Grove Adventist hospitals for many years.

Following his residency training, Dr. Wowk completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Joseph Torg. He presented numerous scientific papers at national meetings during his postgraduate training. Dr. Wowk initially practiced orthopaedics in Central Pennsylvania, where he took care of the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners AAA affiliate teams before coming to the Washington, D.C. area in 1992.

Dr. Wowk is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He holds membership with the Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine and other state and local societies.

Dr. Wowk currently performs surgery at Shady Grove Hospital, Suburban Hospital, and Holy Cross Hospitals in Silver Spring and Germantown. In his free time, he enjoys swimming and is an avid gardener. Dr. Wowk also speaks Spanish, Ukrainian, and Russian.
